About the band

This 20-person honors band is open to all musicians high school age or younger in the greater Twin Cities area. The instrumentation is that of a traditional jazz big band including:

  • Saxophones
  • Trombones
  • Trumpets
  • Piano
  • Bass
  • Drums
  • Guitar

Over 9 weeks the band will rehearse together, perform a concert, and record a CD in a professional studio.

Test Band Director

Brian Lukkasson is director of bands at Spring Lake Park High School and is on the founding board of the Minnesota Jazz Educators Association. He directs two concerts bands and leads the jazz program. Brian received a Bachelor of Arts in Brian received a Bachelor of Arts in trombone performance at the University of Minnesota, Morris where he studied jazz pedagogy with Jim "Doc" Carlson.

The band rehearses every Tuesday from 6:30-8:30pm

Tuition

$200 participation fee

Materials

Sheet music and other materials are included in the tuition feel.

Instrument Rental

We have many instruments available to rent at a cost of $50 per season.

Scholarships are available to help cover costs. Contact us for more information.

Audition Information


2021-22 school year auditions now through August 2, 2021.


  1. Let us know you’re interested by submitting our “get to know you” form.
  2. Start preparing an audition piece that represents your personality and showcases your skills.
  3. One of our directors will reach out to you by June 15 to have a chat and schedule an audition.
